Fishing the Scottish Borders and Dumfries

Fishing Peebles

Peebles lies in the heart of the Scottish Borders and is ideally located for fishing the River Tweed, famous for its trout and salmon fly-fishing. The trout season runs from 1st April to 30th September, and from 15th October to 30th November, the River Tweed is the only major Scottish river where you are allowed to catch salmon. Aberdeen, Moray and Grampian in September

First ever half marathon at the National Trust for Scotland's Crathes Castle, Garden and Estate. Fun day out for runners and spectators. £25 entry fee.

A short walk accompanied by storytelling and a campfire. Free event.

Huntly Hairst - Huntly, 3rd - 4th September
Two day event celebrating food and farming, with an Extra Big Farmer's Market, food demonstrations, tours of local food producers, butchery demonstrations, pony rides, children's entertainment and lots more!

Scottish Chamber Music with Karin Leitner and Alina Bzezhinska - Brodie Castle, 24th September, 7.30pm - 9.45pm
An evening of chamber music with Karin Leitner, from Vienna, Austria, on flute and Alina Bzezhinska, from Edinburgh, on the harp. The programme includes Baroque and Rennaissance music, Scottish pieces for flute and harp, plus solo harp pieces. Adults £16, children £14.

Autumn Speyside Whisky Festival, 29th September - 3rd October
Talks and tastings, bus tours, distillery visits, craft fair, music events and whisky auction.

Fishing Central Scotland

If you are looking for fishing close to the major cities of Edinburgh or Glasgow, there is plenty of excellent and varied fishing nearby. Fishing in Central Scotland means travelling to and from your Scottish fishing holiday couldn't be easier.

There are many famous rivers in Central Scotland, including the Clyde, Irvine, Ayr, Doon, Tay, Orchy and North and South Esks, as well as some excellent lochs, such as Loch Lomond, Loch Fyne and Loch Leven.

Fishing Loch Fyne

Loch Fyne, in Argyll, is a popular sea loch and is well known for its sea trout fishing, as a great number of rivers run into the loch. It is divided into two main sections - Upper Loch Fyne and Lower Loch Fyne, with much of the shoreline accessible from public roads. Fishing Loch Lomond, Loch Leven and the River Tay

Loch Lomond, located in the stunning Loch Lomond National Park, is well-known for its coarse fishing, but you can also fish for salmon and sea trout. Loch Leven, in Kinross, is known worldwide for its brown trout fishing and after being stocked in recent years with rainbow trout, it has now undergone a major clean-up programme to restore its position as Scotland's number one brown trout loch. If it's river fishing you're interested in, the Tay, in beautiful Perthshire, is one of the best salmon rivers in Scotland and ideal for fly-fishing. The Marie Curie Whole Hog Challenge, Mintlaw: 24 September 2011

Go hog wild for adventure in the Scottish countryside!



Climb up waterfalls, scramble through mud and test your endurance in this unforgettable challenge.

Take part in the Whole Hog Challenge in Mintlaw and raise money to help our Marie Curie Nurses continue caring for people with cancer and other terminal illnesses.

The six mile assault course takes you through the rugged and beautiful terrain of Scotland. Once you’ve completed the course, we’ll celebrate your achievement in grand style with a hog roast party.

Make it a daring day out with friends, a team building exercise with colleagues or brave this exciting challenge on your own.

Participants must be aged 18. An outdoor clothing kit list will be provided upon booking.
Event Costs: £35 registration (£105 team of 3) with a minimum raise of £150 (£450 team of 3).

Fishing Aberdeenshire and Moray

There are a number of excellent rivers for trout and salmon fishing in Aberdeenshire and Moray, which cater for both your fishing needs as well as your individual ability. It is a great time to fish this area, with running grilse and late summer salmon - ideal for a last minute, or autumn, Scottish fishing holiday.

Fishing Aberdeenshire

Three popular rivers to fish in Aberdeenshire are the Don, Deveron and Dee. Excellent trout fishing can be found on the River Don, as well as good salmon fishing in autumn, and the River Deveron is best known for runs of large sea trout.

Banchory is a popular place to fish the River Dee. Although famous for its salmon fishing, the River Dee also provides excellent sea trout fishing.
